Under the auspices of promoting scientific, technical and cultural outreach, and programming transversal training activities for doctoral candidates at the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM), the International Doctorate School organizes the annual THREE MINUTE THESIS CONTEST (3MT®), "THESIS IN THREE MINUTES", where participants face the challenge of explaining the content and relevance of their research in a simple and accessible language to a non-specialist audience in just 180 seconds.
What is the 3MT®?
Three minute thesis (3MT®), or "Thesis in three minutes", is an exercise aimed at promoting the development of academic and scientific communication skills of UCLM doctoral candidates. Participants have three minutes to directly, clearly and eloquently explain their research in language suitable for a non-expert audience.
The first 3MT® competition was held at the University of Queensland (Australia) in 2008. Interest in the 3MT® concept quickly grew and its adoption by numerous universities soon led to the creation of an international competition.
Since 2017, the UCLM International Doctorate School has organized six editions.
