Mission and definition

The Library Service has been foreseen in the university statutes as an essential one as in title VII, article 116 (University Community Services).
The University Library has been defined in title VIII as "a resources centre for learning, teaching, research, and activities related to running and administering the university as a whole". Its mission has been established in the following terms: "To provide access and disseminate information resources and to collaborate in the process of creating knowledge in order to contribute towards attaining the objectives of the university".
Furthermore, its main competences are to efficiently manage information resources, regardless of the budget allocated and the procedure by which these resources have been acquired or are hired, and to provide material support.
The commitments taken on by the library as regards the services it provides have been established and specified. They have been supported by indicators and measuring systems, in the University Library Services Charter.
