General Information

The PhD Program in Quantitative Finance and Economics (Verified according to R.D. 99/2011) arises as a merger of two doctorates distinguished with the Mention of Quality by the Ministry of Education (Doctorate in Banking and Quantitative Finance and Doctorate in Economic Analysis and Policies). The PhD Program is Interuniversity of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Universidad Castilla La Mancha, Universidad de Valencia and Universidad del País Vasco (coordinator).

Within the academic activity of the Departments participating in the program, seminars and research courses are held periodically, which PhD students must attend as part of their research training. The PhD Program in Quantitative Finance and Economics is aimed at the preparation and defense of a Doctoral Thesis that meets the following requirements:

  • Provide an original solution to research problems in Finance or in the quantitative and computational methods used in their resolution.
  • Achieve a high level of knowledge in one of the areas of Financial Economics.
  • Demonstrate that the student is capable of solving research tasks autonomously and independently.

Complementary training activities

CROSS-CUTTING TRAINING ACTIVITIES ORGANIZED BY THE INTERNATIONAL DOCTORAL SCHOOL

The International Doctoral School (EID-UCLM) organizes cross-disciplinary training courses with the aim of offering the doctorate students’ complementary training activities to his or her activity as a researcher. Access and admision

The minimum legal requirements for admission to any of the doctoral programs are those specified in the section "Access for new doctoral students" in this link.

ENTRY PROFILE

  • Master's degree in Economics or Finances, with a high analytical component.
  • Knowledge of English level B1.
  • Knowledge of any programming language.

ADMISSION CRITERIA FOR THE PROGRAM

  • Master's degree in Economics or Finance, with a high analytical component, Master's degree up to 70 points.
  • Knowledge of English (equivalent to B1 level) up to 20 points. It will be considered a merit to have taken the Graduate Management Administration test (GMAT) or the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).
  • Knowledge of English will be considered a merit (a score close to 550 in the TOEFL, level a in the Cambridge First Certificate, or level 6 in the JELTS of the British Council is recommended).
  • Knowledge of a programming language or use of statistical software (such as C+, MATLAB, STATA, SPSS, S-PLUS, etc.) up to 10 points.
  • Academic criteria, being essential the presentation of the academic transcript and curriculum vitae.
  • Two letters of introduction signed by professors of their respective degrees, bachelor's degrees or previous degrees, or any other academic program.
Specific procedures of the PhD program

All the procedures will be carried out by the international doctoral school (EID-UCLM), except:

  • Registration and request for certifications and degrees: Student Management Unit of the student's Campus.
  • Application for admission and thesis deposit: Secretary of the Department to which the student's tutor belongs.
